Gaëlle Choisne with the mentorship of Lorna Simpson
The fifth Reiffers Art Initiatives art book retraces the 2023 edition of the Reiffers Art Initiatives mentorship program. The book reveals the rich collaboration between mentor Lorna Simpson and young talent Gaëlle Choisne.
"Gaëlle Choisne and Lorna Simpson deploy their imaginations here, exploring our social, political and historical realities, with a particular interest in the role and power of images. They also develop, each in their own way, a singular relationship with Nature and the living: from the melting ice evoked by Lorna Simpson to Gaëlle Choisne’s Caribbean references." - Thibaut Wychowanok
For this new edition of the mentorship program, African-American artist Lorna Simpsons, known for her conceptual approach to photography, chose to support French artist Gaelle Choisne. The result of their work was presented in a joint exhibition at the Acacias Art Center in Fall 2023.
In this exhibition, Lorna Simpson chose to present her most recent work, which includes a series of large-scale paintings inspired by nature. Gaëlle Choisne completed the exhibition by unveiling new pieces that deftly depict the chaos of the world and her attention to all living things, whether fauna or flora.
